Neurodiversity Protocol (NDP)
Neurodiversity Protocol (NDP)
The Department of Developmental Services had their Master Plan project for reform but are choosing not to enact it. Like Thanos, “Fine. I’ll do it myself.” Help me (a self-advocate) create a plan for change. You can meet with me to share your experiences and what changes you need. We can talk on zoom or I can meet you if you are located in Sonoma County. The disability system is for us; it belongs to us. If it's not working for us, we have the right to change it. We will teach and non-violently discipline the regional centers to:
Establish foundational principles to guide and hold staff and vendors accountable
base service decisions on accountable assessments rather than prejudicial assumptions
prioritize client care over corporate interests and public opinion
honor disabled people as the best experts on their disabilities
remove toxic positivity from the work culture
Define eligible disabilities
with the social model of disability
and list supportive goods and services
Define ethical care and human rights
with a process to continually update them
with quality assessments similar to how the early childhood field made Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale and Classroom Assessment Scoring System
Mandate universal training on disabilities and rights for all regional center and vendor staff
include anti-retaliation training
promote it to clients and families as well
Accountability to clients
with a self-advocate panel who understands us to judge dignity violations
defund companies that do not meet our quality standards
empower us to send warnings to any staff that violates our human dignity
Public influence
promote compassion and acceptance
promote self-assessment
admit specific mistakes to regain our trust
